First Edition.  Infinite Possibilities.

Greetings from Denmark,
Since leaving Social Media just over six months ago I have heard from several people that my presence is missed (which is nice to know). With the overwhelming news cycle and very serious issues we are bombarded with on a daily basis, I hesitate to write anything at all. Then I acknowledge that in some ways silence is what ends us. It is important to know when to be silent and when not to be.

I have always said that my super power is showing that there is something beautiful about this world and our life in it. That seems to be really all I can offer, And so here I want to share with you a brief summary of my own life headlines, and hope that it will bring you some joy, wonder and inspiration to continue to do and be the unique force that you are on this earth in this time.

What’s new

25 SEPT. 2025
PRIX PICTET SHORTLIST 2025! at the Victoria & Albert Museum, London UK.
Don’t worry about sounding professional. Sound like you. There are over 1.5 billion websites out there, but your story is what’s going to separate this one from the rest. If you read the words back and don’t hear your own voice in your head, that’s a good sign you still have more work to do.

Be clear, be confident and don’t overthink it. The beauty of your story is that it’s going to continue to evolve and your site can evolve with it. Your goal should be to make it feel right for right now. Later will take care of itself. It always does.

On 25th of September I was honored to be present at the Prix Pictet Ceremony at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, UK. I was thankful to have the support of my husband David, my daughter Tala, My good friends, Jo, Liz and others whose presence I truly appreciated. Although I was not named the winner, I can be very proud for the placement of my work in the exhibition and the fact that many news outlets are leading with my Lovely Monster over the Farm image. If you happen to be in London before October 19th please take some time to check out the exhibition. the 11 other photographers whose work I share the gallery walls with are all exceptional and the show is quite powerful as a whole.

Attended by as many as 1000 people the event seemed to be the place to be that evening.

Kicking the Habit..

I left Social Media in late February for many reasons, admitting the problems with it, bad habits, and larger political situation were all part of my reason for walking away. For me I realized that it was not connective, did not help build any real community (in a physical way) for me, nor did I feel that it fed my creativity. As a way of replacing the addiction of doom scrolling, and hours lost down the rabbit hole of voyeurism, as a way to keep my mind busy and hands too, I have taken up the bizarre pastime of collecting, repairing & restoring Vintage Singer Sewing Machines. I know it’s a bit strange, I had no idea how much I missed being mechanical. Taking apart these machines ( which range in age from my oldest machine from 1883 to my “newest"machine from 1960) cleaning them, making them work again has been incredibly satisfying. Unfortunately they have very little value, which is ok for me, many of them are given to me, or I get for as low as 50DK (which is about $7US) occasionally I will spend quite a bit more if it’s decals are pristine. In any case I have learned new skills, and now own quite the collection. It has helped me stop the scrolling and got me thinking about concepts like planned obsolescence, (before 1960’s sewing machines were built to last, and these work as well now as they did when they were new) fast fashion, fashion pollution, and the fact that the success of the sewing machine was both the cause of it’s own demise of their popularity in domestic scenarios as well as huge factor in enabling problems like fast fashion and clothing waste.

My oldest machine a Singer model 12K made in 1883, Kilbowie Scotland

My latest restoration, a 1926 Singer 31K15 an industrial version that was in need of paint, and massive cleaning. I chose this maximalist style to echo the decadence of the the period, though there was no metallic paint in the 1920's. When a machine is so badly rusting or in need of paint I feel it an opportunity to be more creative and hopefully give a machine a chance at another 100 years of functionality. I also sand and repair the treadle table.

Do you have a machine? What interests keep you off the phone and limit your scrolling habits?

Life in Denmark and possibilities for 2026

I have now been living in Denmark for over three years! I cannot believe how extraordinary it has been to live here, coming from the USA via Ireland. Every morning I remind myself how lucky I have been. Here David and I own an old 1870 house that has been well maintained, upgraded over the years with 2 hectares (7acres) of land. Our house sits facing south into the land. Life here has been mind-blowing in it’s comparison to social society and life view as an American. I only wish I could have all Americans experience even a taste of what life is like in a place that values the welfare of all. Is it perfect? nah. But damn it is close.

Since being here I have been learning Danish, Det er ikke nemt. (that is not easy).  I live in a historically rich area with many old Viking burial mounds Rune Stones and living Viking Museums.  Here we are also rich in Amber washing up on the shores, so I have become an Amber hunter in the Winter. I also live very close to the Wadden Sea which is a UNESCO World Heritage site famous for it’s massive bird migrations, mud flats and incredible beauty.

Workshop Denmark 2026?

I am putting together what will be my first of it’s kind very intimate photography workshop that will take place here in Jutland, Denmark. If you want to expand your photographic ability, develop your own voice, or just hang out with me and four other passionate photographers, please send me an email so that I can place your name on a list (first come first serve). I am imagining doing more of these small intimate workshops as time allows and can for see taking us to places like Faroe, Iceland, Scotland, Norway, Greenland, Svalbard in the near future. Just to get started. I think this Denmark trip will be quite special as it is my back yard so-to-speak.
